The significance of applications of line array systems is the long-distance sound dispersion and uniform sound field coverage. In order to achieve a long distance thrown, the line array should have a narrow waveguide so as to throw the sound to a greater distance. If a group of long-distance thrown linear array speakers have the same sound pressure level both in the front and further areas, the audience in front of them will feel uncomfortable. Therefore, we use a compound line array to cover the front audience with lower SPL speakers but cover the audience in the far field with higher SPL speakers. It will help to achieve cost savings but better and uniform sound coverage.
In order to provide enough sound field coverage in the near field, it should be narrowed at the beginning and gradually widened to further distance. In front of the stage, the horizontal directivity of the conventional line array system is constant, which is usually about 110°or 100°. The waveguide is wide enough at a close distance. The problem is that it gets very wide at medium distances, so a lot of acoustic energy is reflected off the wall, causing a lot of confusion. In outdoor performances, when sound waves are beyond the audience area, most of them will be dissipated. The combined application of Gamma Y and Sigma Z will easily configure an asymmetric coverage mode.
